Smiling is one of the most basic, biologically-uniform expressions of all humans. It is an expression of joy and pleasure. It reflects happiness and amusement. smiling is something that is understood by everyone. It is one of the most obvious and effective methods of non-verbal communication, a mean of communicating emotions and feelings. A universal body language that is internationally known by almost everyone. Regardless of which culture we came from or what religion we follow, smiling overcomes barriers and open doors for people. When we are in a environment where we require to work with a distressed public. A smile tends to convey respect, patience, empathy, hospitality and compassion.

Smiling has implications both in our personal as well as our business relationships. As a cook, I know that serving the customer can’t be don’t without a smile. Smiling always has benefits to consumers as well as suppliers. One morning, my friends went to have breakfast in a restaurant. they recall the waiter came to them without a smile, he just stared his shift , tired and ready to go back to sleep. The waiter asked whether we were ready to order; we answered him “yes” we would like to have a SMILE. The waiter smiles, his face cheered and we noticed that his treatment and service toward us changed toward the best. He became more joyful and pleasant. He brought additional sweets as a courtesy and served us more than we have expected. I believe that the smile is what made the waiter go "the extra mile", and perhaps made the rest of the day in a positive mood. Imagine if the same waiter came across an irate stressed customer, when he smiles at that customer, with and exhibits excellent listening skills, most likely the outcome will be satisfactory. A sincere smile is a message of goodwill, and is considered a sign of hospitality and confidence when dealing with a friend or a business associate.

Smiling is indeed important in our everyday life, both in our personal lives as well as within the workplace. Many research proves that smiling does increase attractiveness and likability between humans. also Other research reports that people receive more help when they smile. When a person smiles, even memory retrieval of your name is enhanced as is shown in neuroscience research.[i] People who tend to smile produce feeling of trust, and better financial earnings. [ii] In a UC Berkley California a 30-year longitudinal study that examined the photos of students in an old yearbook and tried to measure their success and well-being throughout their life. By measuring their student smiles, researchers were able to predict how fulfilling and long-lasting a subject's marriage will be, how well she would score on standardized tests of well-being and how inspiring she would be to others. We are drawn to people who smile. There is an attraction factor. We want to know a smiling person and figure out what is so good. Frowns, scowls and grimaces all push people away — but a smile draws them in.

Another research project that took place in Wayne State University in 2010 that looked into pre-1950s baseball cards of Major League players. The researchers found that the span of a players smile could actually predict the span of his life. Players who didn't smile in their pictures lived an average of only 72.9 years, where players with beaming smiles lived an average of almost 80 years.

In another studies conducted in Papua New Guinea, Paul Ekman, the world's most renowned researcher on facial expressions, found that even members of the Fore tribe, who were completely disconnected from Western culture, attributed smiles to descriptions of situations the same way modern American and European would. So from Papau New Guinea to Hollywood all the way to modern art in Beijing, we smile often, and you smile to express joy and satisfaction.

Another study at Uppsala University in Sweden found that it's very difficult to frown when looking at someone who smiles. One might ask, why? It is because smiling is evolutionarily contagious, and it suppresses the control we usually have on our facial muscles. Mimicking a smile and experiencing it physically help us understand whether our smile is fake or real, so we can understand the emotional state of the smile. No wonder why being around children who smile so frequently makes us smile very often knowing that children smile as many as 400 times per day.

In a recent mimicking study at the University of Clermont-Ferrand in France, subjects were asked to determine whether a smile was real or fake while holding a pencil in their mouth to repress smiling muscles. Without the pencil, subjects were excellent judges, But with the pencil in their mouth, when they could not mimic the smile they saw, their judgment was impaired.
